medium: watercolour and ink

The source of this work was a quick pen sketch of tree shapes that I did in 2019, to which I later added some very loose watercolour background. Last year I started a much larger version on watercolour paper.
When the BAS exhibition was announced I felt that this was the piece I was working on that chimed most closely with the theme. I continued to work on it, making the ink lines bolder and more sinuous as I sought to achieve a better structural, tonal and colour balance, and – hopefully – convey a spirit of renewal and uplift.
